11/4 For Tube Strike During Olympics…7/4 For Jamaican 1, 2, 3 In 100m

Recent talks between tube unions and London Underground have stalled once again and William Hill are offering 11/4 that an official Underground strike takes place during the Olympics (1/4 that one not does take place).

“The Olympics are getting closer, but no compromise has been made with regards to transport,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “The odds suggest that strike action should be averted…just.”

Dame Mary Peters has entered the reckoning to light the Olympic Flame after a number of enquiries over the last 24 hours. The former pentathlete has been backed in from 125/1 to 50/1 to get the honour and is the only Northern Irish athlete in Hill’s shortlist. Despite his assertions that he has not been approached to light the Olympic Flame, Sir Steve Redgrave is William Hill’s Even money favourite to light the flame with Roger Bannister 3/1 and Kelly Holmes 5/1.

Unsurprisingly, Usain Bolt is the 4/7 favourite with Hills to win the 100m although his dominance could be challenged by his fellow countryman Yohan Blake. The young Jamaican is 7/2 second favourite with Tyson Gay 13/2. Asafa Powell is 8/1 and miles ahead of fifth favourite, Justin Gatlin at 25/1. Hills offer 7/4 that the Jamaicans (Bolt, Blake and Powell) all finish in the medals.
