Future Bright For Hodgson And When Will He Lose?

England defeated Italy although neither side were at their strongest a fact highlighted by the 11/8 offered by William Hill that only four or five of Wednesday’s starting XI line up for England’s first WC qualifying game. Roy Hodgson’s unbeaten record remains intact and William Hill offer 5/4 that he does not taste defeat until after 2012 has finished.

“The match against Italy showed us that the future is bright for England but the odds would suggest a return to a more traditional starting XI once qualifiers start,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Jack Butland became England’s youngest ever goalkeeper and he is 2/1 to play Premier League football this season for any side (4/11 he does not).

Jack Butland to play in a Premier League match this season: 4/11 no; 2/1 yes

How many of tonight’s starting XI will start England’s first qualifier: 8/1 0-3; 11/8 4-5; 13/8 6-7; 7/2 8-9; 14/1 10-11

England next defeat: 9/1 Moldova (a); 9/2 Ukraine (h); 150/1 San Marino (h); 5/2 Poland (a); 11/4 Sweden (a); 5/4 unbeaten at the end of 2012

William Hill are offering 16/1 that they finish the season in the top six and finish their first Premier League season with European football.

With only two games taking place in the Premier League on Saturday, the best of the action was to be found in the Championship where Reading briefly topped the table before a rousing comeback from Southampton saw them reclaim top spot and William Hill make the Saints the Even money favourites to win the League, with Reading 2/1 and West Ham 5/2.

City Start Shows Promise As Aguero Slashed For Golden Boot

Manchester City showed their obvious class when upstaging Swansea on their return to the big time, to record the only home win of the opening week of the Premier League. New boy Sergio Aguero, scored two and set up one on his City debut and William Hill are offering 4/1 that he bags the golden boot during his first season in Premier League football. Manchester City are 10/3 to win the Premier League this season but are still behind Manchester United and Chelsea at 6/5 and 3/1 respectively. Hills offer 10/3 about a United/City 1-2, while a City/United forecast is 11/2.

“After just one game, the league is looking ominous for teams around the country as the North West occupy the top three,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “Realistically, there will only be two of those sides there at the end of the season but on the weekend’s form, the Manchester sides will take some shifting from their lofty perch.”

Despite performing well in the first half, Swansea faded in the second and succumbed to a big defeat and they are Hill’s favourites, at 8/15 to be relegated. Swansea are 13/8 to be the last of the promoted sides to register a Premier League win. Norwich are 6/4 and QPR are 7/4. All three promoted sides are 4/1 to be relegated. Swansea are 11/10 to win their next game against Wigan and 3/1 to record their first Premier League win against Sunderland. They are 11/4 to fail to win within the next five games.
Next Swansea Win: 11/10 Wigan; 3/1 Sunderland; 25/1 Arsenal; 5/1 West Brom; 50/1 Chelsea; 11/4 None of the next five games

Last Promoted side to register a Premier League win: 6/4 Norwich; 13/8 Swansea; 7/4 QPR

PL Top goal scorer: 4/1 Sergio Aguero; 7/1 Wayne Rooney; 9/1 Fernando Torres; 9/1 Javier Hernandez; 10/1 Robin Van Persie; 11/1 BAR

PL Relegation: 8/15 Swansea; 8/13 Norwich; 1/1 QPR; 7/4 Wigan; 2/1 Blackburn; 7/2 Wolves; 4/1 BAR

Michael’s G-owen Nowhere…125/1 For 2011/12 Golden Boot

Following the news that Michael Owen has put pen to paper on a new one year deal at Manchester United, William Hill are offering 7/4 that he scores less than two Premier League goals and 6/4 that he bags four or more. He is 125/1 to get next season’s golden boot and 20/1 to not play a single minute of Premier League football. He is 5/2 to start one or no Premier League games next season, while he is 9/4 to start six or more.

“In one of the more surprising football stories of the last few days, Owen has signed for another year at United, but Fergie obviously has a role for him and it will be interesting to see how he is utilised by United,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Michael Owen is 7/1 to make an appearance for England in a Euro 2012 Qualifier or Finals match.

Owen’s signature may be the clearest indication yet that Dimitar Berbatov will be heading for the exit and William Hill are now offering odds on where the mercurial Bulgarian will be plying his trade on the first game of next season. He is 11/4 to still be at Manchester United and 7/2 to be playing in the Bundesliga. He is 4/1 to be at Newcastle next season and the same price to be playing in Serie A. He is 25/1 to make the short trip to Eastlands to join United’s arch rivals.

Michael Owen Premier League Starts:
0-1 5/2
2-3 2/1
4-5 11/4
6 + 9/4

Total Michael Owen Premier League Goals
Under 2 7/4
2-3 7/4
4 or more 6/4

125/1 Michael Owen to win the golden boot
20/1 Not to play a single minute of Premier League football for Manchester United
7/1 Play in an England Euro 2012 Qualifier or Finals match

Where will Dimitar Berbatov be playing come the first game of next season: 11/4 Manchester United; 7/2 Bundesliga; 4/1 Newcastle; 4/1 Serie A; 7/1 Tottenham; 8/1 La Liga; 10/1 Sunderland; 16/1 Liverpool; 20/1 Chelsea; 25/1 Arsenal; 25/1 Manchester City

WILLIAM HILL have opened a book on what division West Ham will be playing in when they kick off in the Olympic Stadium for the first time and offer 8/11 that they will be playing Premier League football at that stage – but 16/1 that they will be in League One, or lower, by then.

You Bet Pompey And Avram Could Be On Way Out

YOU BET IT MAY BE THE END FOR POMPEY AND AVRAM

WILLIAM HILL are offering odds of 11/4 that Portsmouth will fail to fulfill their entire Premier League programme this season – and odds of 4/1 that Avram Grant will still be manager of the club on the first day of next season.

‘Pompey are on the brink, but football clubs seem to have a remarkable habit of avoiding meltdown in these circumstances, especially Premier League football clubs’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills offer 1/4 that Pompey WILL play all their fixtures, and 1/7 that Grant will no longer be in charge at the club on the first day of season 2010/11. (If club ceases to exist he will be deemed to no longer be in charge for betting purposes.)

Portsmouth are currently 1/16 with Hills to be relegated this season and 7/1 to avoid relegation.
