RYAN GIGGS has been backed from 100/1 to 5/1 clear third favourite to win the BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year Award in the biggest gamble ever seen on the event.
‘Very few punters fancied Ryan Giggs seriously to win the Award before he made the final ten, at which point we made him a 20/1 outsider, but since then he has been backed as though defeat were out of the question – I’ve never seen a contender’s odds slashed like this before’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe. ‘He obviously has the Manchester United supporter base on his side, and the Welsh vote is probably sewn up, but whether he will also appeal enough to the casual viewers who will vote on the night to outdo the likes of Jenson Button and Jessica Ennis is debatable, despite his undoubted career longevity and uncontroversial public image’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
