11 August 2010 For Immediate Release
MORE NEW DEALS ANNOUNCED AHEAD OF SEASON KICK OFF
The Scottish Premier League (SPL) today announced a raft of new commercial deals ahead of the
forthcoming season. These deals were approved by the clubs at Friday’s General Meeting.
For the next two seasons, STV have acquired the rights to use SPL footage across their daily new
bulletins and their Sports Centre programme broadcast ahead of each weekend’s fixtures. STV will
also be assisting the SPL to produce over 100 matches each season and manage their archive
content going back to 1998.
Radio Clyde meanwhile have secured goalflash rights for 2010/11. This will mean that their
listeners will be kept up to speed with all the action on match days from around the grounds on

advertising air-time across Radio Clyde and STV’s sports programming.
Separately, a deal has been struck with Moray Firth Radio (MFR) to broadcast live commentary at
all Inverness Caledonian Thistle games in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League next season.
Neil Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPL, commented, “We’ve been working hard over the
summer to pull together a range of commercial deals. So, it is really pleasing that we are able to
announce them ahead of the big kick off on Saturday.
“We’ve had to be creative in how we have structured some of these deals but by doing this we have
been able to deliver. Our key aims have been to drive more investment into the league, and in turn
our clubs, and to broaden the coverage of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. We look forward
to working with MFR, William Hill, Radio Clyde and STV to do so in the coming season.”
William Hill Operations Controller Scotland, Brian McColgan, commented, “William Hill are delighted
to become the SPL’s first official betting partner. As Scotland’s major bookmakers, and the
industry’s longest established and most innovative company, we are keen to emphasise our
commitment to promoting and supporting Scottish football through our 300+ branches in Scotland
and via our online presence, which has a worldwide following. Together we can raise and enhance
the profile of Scottish football.”
Bobby Hain, MD of Broadcasting at STV, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with
the SPL. We’re ideally placed to provide them with a range of key services and today’s deal allows
us to provide football fans across Scotland with a dedicated Clydesdale Bank Premier League
football show every Friday evening, in addition to our weeknight Sports Centre updates.”
Head of News and Sport at Radio Clyde, Lorraine Herbison, said, “We are thrilled to have secured
this deal with the SPL and know this is sure to prove a real highlight for our avid listeners in
Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Superscoreboard has some great personalities on the
programme and has a really loyal following.
“Securing the goalflash rights, allowing us to go round the grounds, underlines our commitment to
bringing the best in sports coverage direct to our listeners and enhances the show even further.
The new look programme launched on Monday night and was also the debut show for Jim
Delahunt, our new anchor. It is already proving very popular with our listeners.”
Danny Gallagher, Managing Director at MFR said: “I am absolutely delighted to have negotiated this
deal with the SPL for our listeners. Many have made it known that they would love MFR to follow the
first division champions as they move back up to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Jose Mourinho: The Special One Or A Lucky Punter!

Jose Mourinho has been in charge of Real Madrid for nearly two months and it is almost time to discover if he is indeed the Special One. William Hill have opened a book of Real Madrid specials in anticipation of the forthcoming season. Real are 4/7 to win a major trophy next season (La Liga, Copa del Rey or Champions League) and 5/4 that they do not. Jose is 33/1 to scoop the treble. Despite Mourinho’s preference for defensive football, Real are 7/2 to score more than 100 goals this season and 5/1 to break the La Liga record for goals scored by a team (107 in 1998-9 by Real Madrid). The abject performances in ‘El Classico’ last season certainly did not endear Manuel Pelligrini to the Real faithful and Mourinho is 9/2 to win both Barcelona clashes. For no Real wins, Hills offer 5/4 and Evens that they win one. Should he fail, Hills offer 7/2 that he is out of the job before the last day of the season.

“For the first time in his career there is no hiding in Madrid for Mourinho. With the talent and funds available to him, it could be argued that Real will be expecting to win everything next season. Should he fail, it would be interesting to see if he receives more support from the board than his predecessors have,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

William Hill Real Madrid specials:

To score more than 100 league goals – 7/2

To break the record for goals scored by a team (107) – 5/1

To win a major trophy next year – 4/7 Yes; 5/4 No

To do the treble (La Liga, Copa del Rey; Champions League) – 33/1

Vs. Barcelona: Number of wins – 5/4 None; 1/1 One; 9/2 Two

Mourinho to still be manager at the start of next season – 1/6 Yes; 7/2 No
