Hodgson’s Cubs Backed To Grow Into Lions

Roy Hodgson has announced a youthful side for England’s friendly against Italy and William Hill are betting on how many of the fringe players will feature in the World Cup in 2014. William Hill make Michael Carrick 15/8 to be included in the World Cup squad in 2014.

Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand (6/4 to be included), Everton’s Jack Rodwell (1/1), Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley (8/13) and Tottenham’s Steven Caulker (13/8) and Jake Livermore (5/1) have all been called up. Jack Butland (2/5) and John Ruddy (5/6) are deputies to Joe Hart and Daniel Sturridge (4/6) provides a different option in attack.

“After a final fling at the Euros, it may be time for some of the old guard to move on and Hodgson has certainly signalled his intent by calling up so many youngsters,” said William Hill spokesman Mark Young.

Brazil are favourites for their home World Cup at 11/4. Argentina and Spain are 11/2 and England are 20/1 to be world champions.
