Could Butland Cause Joe World Cup Hart-ache?

England’s young cubs are 7/5 slight favourites to defeat Italy (2/1) on Wednesday night and the draw 11/5. Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe are the only recognised strikers in the England squad yet neither are considered first choice at their club sides and are 13/8 (Defoe) and 5/6 (Carroll) to have left their clubs by the time the transfer window shuts. The Spurs striker is 1/7 to start Spurs opening game of the season although Andy Carroll is 4/1 to do so.

Jack Butland looks primed to make his debut in goal for England and William Hill offer 3/1 that he starts between the sticks for England’s first World Cup game in Brazil although Joe Hart is the 4/9 favourite.

“Butland looks likely to become the youngest ever goalkeeper capped by England and should he progress as is expected, he could well be pressing Joe Hart for the number one shirt,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hodgson’s Cubs Backed To Grow Into Lions

Roy Hodgson has announced a youthful side for England’s friendly against Italy and William Hill are betting on how many of the fringe players will feature in the World Cup in 2014. William Hill make Michael Carrick 15/8 to be included in the World Cup squad in 2014.

Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand (6/4 to be included), Everton’s Jack Rodwell (1/1), Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley (8/13) and Tottenham’s Steven Caulker (13/8) and Jake Livermore (5/1) have all been called up. Jack Butland (2/5) and John Ruddy (5/6) are deputies to Joe Hart and Daniel Sturridge (4/6) provides a different option in attack.

“After a final fling at the Euros, it may be time for some of the old guard to move on and Hodgson has certainly signalled his intent by calling up so many youngsters,” said William Hill spokesman Mark Young.

Brazil are favourites for their home World Cup at 11/4. Argentina and Spain are 11/2 and England are 20/1 to be world champions.

To Make England’s 2014 World Cup Squad (Bets void if England don’t qualify)

1/4 Kyle Walker, 2/5 Jack Butland, 8/13Tom Cleverley, 4/6 Daniel Sturridge, 5/6 John Ruddy, EVS Jack Rodwell, 6/4 Ryan Bertrand, 13/8 Steven Caulker, 15/8 Michael Carrick, 5/1 Jake Livermore

That’s Rich: Luka 9/4 To Turn Out For Big Spending United

News reports are suggesting that Manchester United are set to make a move for Spurs playmaker Luka Modric and William Hill are offering a market on who will start in midfield for the Reds on the first day of next season. Paul Scholes and new signing, Shinji Kagawa, are 4/7 with Ryan Giggs 8/11 to start. With Modric not confirmed as a Manchester United player yet, he is just 9/4 to take to the pitch in a United shirt on day one of the 2012/13 season.

“After just missing out on the title this season, United are aiming to come back with a bang and the signings of Kagawa and Modric certainly indicate their intentions right at the start of the summer,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

David Beckham, Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs are reportedly the three over 23 players named in Stuart Pearce’s Olympic squad and Hills now make David Beckham the 1/3 favourite to wear the armband in the first game. Bellamy is the 5/1 second favourite with Giggs 6/1.

“All three players have worn international armbands in the past and all three will be leaders on the pitch but it looks like Becks will lead the side out,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

To start for Manchester United next season:

1/3 Michael Carrick (9/4 not to)
4/7 Paul Scholes (5/4 not to)
4/7 Shinji Kagawa (5/4 not to)
8/11 Ryan Giggs (1/1 not to)
6/4 Tom Cleverley (1/2 not to)
6/4 Ji-Sung Park (1/2 not to)
9/4 Luka Modric (1/3 not to)
5/2 Darren Fletcher (2/7 not to)
9/2 Paul Pogba (1/8 not to)

Who will be Team GB in the first group game: 1/3 David Beckham; 5/1 Craig Bellamy; 6/1 Ryan Giggs

British Punters Punt With Their Heads As Barca Well Backed

Over 80% of all outright bets placed on this year’s Champions League Final at William Hill have been placed on Barcelona, despite the firm dangling the carrot of top priced Manchester United for punters.

“Not even the 3/1 that we are offering about Manchester United can tempt the punters to punt any way other than a Barca win,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills are offering a patriotic punt with two of the sporting calendar’s biggest fixtures taking place this weekend. Manchester United to lift the Champions League and Hamilton or Button to win the Monaco Grand Prix is offered at 10/1.

Barcelona are 21/10 to win in 90 minutes, while the draw is offered at 21/10. Hills offer 5/1 that the match is decided on penalties while either side can be backed to win on penalties at 11/1. The match is 9/2 to be decided in extra time.

The Champions League Final is second only to the World Cup Final as the highest turnover football match in the world and Hills are expecting the betting industry to take over £10 million on Saturday.

William Hill Odds:

Patriotic Punts:

Will The Champions League Be Carrickter Building Or Will There Be A Klangerroo?

William Hill have released a number of specials for this weekend’s Champions League final. One market of which is who will be the first player to tweet after the game. The 2/5 favourite is serial tweeter, Rio Ferdinand, while Wayne Rooney, who is still relatively new to Twitter is the 5/2 second favourite. Michael Owen is 8/1.

“Rio is a devoted tweeter and there is no doubt that he should be the favourite, although Wayne Rooney is quickly catching him up in terms of tweets and followers and he will be keen to get one up on Rio come Saturday,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills offer 8/1 that Park Ji-Sung scores but does not win man of the match, entitled Un-Sung Hero, while 50/1 is offered for Danny Alves to score in both halves –A Game Of Two ‘Alves.

Hills are expecting an industry wide turnover of £10 million to be staked on the game, for which Manchester United are the 3/1 outsiders. Barcelona go into the game as the 21/20 favourites, while the draw is 21/10 all in 90 minutes. United are 13/8 to lift the trophy, while Barcelona are 1/2.

“We expect our turnover to be up this year for a number of reasons, namely, the game is on a Saturday, there is an English team involved and the two sides competing are the Champions of arguably the two best leagues in the world,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

William Hill Odds:

Scholes Galore: Paul Scholes to score in each half – 50/1

Klanger-Roo – Wayne Rooney to concede a penalty – 33/1

Will Capello Dare Drop Rooney Next Time Out? You Bet!

Capello 10/3 to drop Rooney for next game:

FABIO ODDS ON TO STICK AROUND UNTIL 2012
William Hill now make 2012 their 8/11 favourite to be the year in which Fabio Capello ceases to be England manager. ‘Fabio has somehow defied the odds and his critics to retain his job, but he still faces the small matter of Euro 2012 qualification which, on paper, should be straightforward’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe. ‘We expect him to blood some new players in the August friendly against Hungary and have opened a book on who might start the game’
Despite Capello hitning at bringing in new faces for the Hungary friendly Hills still make Rooney, Terry, Gerrard and Lampard odds-on shots to start the match. (See prices below)

Hills have lengthened Harry Redknapp’s odds of becoming the next England manager from 13/8 to 9/4 favourite, but slashed Roy Hodgson from 6/1 to 11/4 second favourite. ‘Who knows what Harry’s fortunes will be once the job becomes vacant, but if Hodgson impresses at Anfield he could well be in just the right place at just the right time to take over if Capello departs in 2012’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

YOU BET ROONEY WILL BE SORRY AGAIN!
WAYNE ROONEY is 6/1 with William Hill to have to issue ANOTHER official apology for some trangression during England’s game against Slovenia. ‘After the booing incident, for which he had had to formally apologise, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was another incident of similar type should England under-perform again on Wednesday’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe. Hills have already cut their odds for Rooney to be red-carded in the game against Slovenia from 33/1 to 20/1.
Hills ALSO OFFER 6/4 THAT ROONEY WILL BE SUBBED; 5/2 HE WILL BE BOOKED; 8/1 HE IS DROPPED;16/1 HE WILL GESTURE AT THE FANS – (NOT IN A NICE WAY!);
