You Bet England Can Hold On To Ball And Hit The Target

Under Roy Hodgson, England have not yet managed to achieve over 50% possession in three games, but William Hill think that could all change against Sweden on Friday. The firm make the Three Lions 8/11 to have 50% possession or more during the match (Evens that they do not). Against France, England had just one shot on target, but again, Hills think that they will better that against a somewhat weaker Sweden team. It is 5/6 for England to have 7 or more shots on target during the game (with the same price offered for fewer than seven).

“Hodgson has claimed that he does not pay much credence to statistics but we are sure that he will be acutely aware of the fact that England need to improve in the attacking third and we think that he will set England up in such a way to do so,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

England are 11/10 to win their game against Sweden and with Danny Welbeck expected to start again for Hodgson’s side, he is 6/1 to open the scoring.

The early kick off in Group D sees the Ukraine take on France and Andriy Shevchenko is 11/1 to bag another two goals or more in the match. France are 11/10 to win, while the home side are 5/2.

Three Lionesses Backed For Win Against France

England’s Women progressed through to the Quarter Final of the World Cup and bookmakers, William Hill, make them 9/5 to defeat France in the next round. Les Bleus are 6/5 slight favourites but despite this, Hope Powell’s recruits have been well backed by punters with over 60% of all bets being staked on them to win. Should the game go beyond the 90 minutes, Hills are offering 12/1 that England win in extra time and 11/1 they win on penalties.

England are relative outsiders to go on and win the competition, offered at 20/1, quite a way behind favourites, Germany, at 5/6 and Brazil at 7/2. The Three Lionesses are 8/13 to be knocked out at the Quarter Final stage and 6/5 to qualify for the Semis.

“England were very much improved against Japan while the French side are coming into the game on the back of a heavy defeat to Germany and our punters are backing them to come good,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

England’s Kelly Smith came into the tournament as the Golden Girl of the team, however, she has failed to find the net once during the tournament and has been backed by Hill’s punters NOT to score during the remaining games. Originally offered at 8/11 not to do so, she has been backed into 4/6, but she is 11/10 to get off the mark.
