11/4 For Tube Strike During Olympics…7/4 For Jamaican 1, 2, 3 In 100m

Recent talks between tube unions and London Underground have stalled once again and William Hill are offering 11/4 that an official Underground strike takes place during the Olympics (1/4 that one not does take place).

“The Olympics are getting closer, but no compromise has been made with regards to transport,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “The odds suggest that strike action should be averted…just.”

Dame Mary Peters has entered the reckoning to light the Olympic Flame after a number of enquiries over the last 24 hours. The former pentathlete has been backed in from 125/1 to 50/1 to get the honour and is the only Northern Irish athlete in Hill’s shortlist. Despite his assertions that he has not been approached to light the Olympic Flame, Sir Steve Redgrave is William Hill’s Even money favourite to light the flame with Roger Bannister 3/1 and Kelly Holmes 5/1.

Unsurprisingly, Usain Bolt is the 4/7 favourite with Hills to win the 100m although his dominance could be challenged by his fellow countryman Yohan Blake. The young Jamaican is 7/2 second favourite with Tyson Gay 13/2. Asafa Powell is 8/1 and miles ahead of fifth favourite, Justin Gatlin at 25/1. Hills offer 7/4 that the Jamaicans (Bolt, Blake and Powell) all finish in the medals.

Will there be an official London Underground strike during the London Olympics: 1/4 no; 11/4 yes

Who will light the Olympic Flame in 2012: 1/1 Steve Redgrave; 3/1 Roger Bannister; 5/1 Kelly Holmes; 12/1 Daley Thompson; 14/1 Chris Hoy; 16/1 David Beckham; 16/1 Tom Daley; 50/1 Mary Peters

Men’s 100m winner: 4/7 Usain Bolt; 7/2 Yohan Blake; 13/2 Tyson Gay; 8/1 Asafa Powell; 25/1 Justin Gatlin; 40/1 Michael Rodgers; 50/1 Christophe Lemaitre; 50/1 Richard Thompson; 66/1 Walter Dix; 66/1 Nesta Carter; 80/1 Ngonidzashe Makusha; 100/1 BAR… others… 150/1 Dwain Chambers; 150/1 Harry Aikines-Aryeetey; 200/1 Mark Lewis Francis; 200/1 Simeon Williamson

He’s odds on for Team GB, but:
SACRE BLEU! BECKS OFF TO FRANCE?

DAVID BECKHAM has been cut from 4/6 to 1/3 with William Hill to play in the London Olympics for Team GB – while Hills have also opened a book on which will be his next club if he doesn’t re-sign for LA Galaxy.
Becks is 6/4 to sign another contract for the US outfit, and 1/2 not to – while Hills make French side PSG 1/2 favourites to be the next club to sign the former England skipper. ‘Short of inviting Stuart Pearce to be god-father to the next baby Becks, it is difficult to see how much more obvious he could make it that he expects to be included in Team GB’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe, ‘But the question of where he will next ply his trade looks likely to see him turning up in Paris.’

WILLIAM HILL BECKS’ SPECIALS…
To play any part in Team GB Olympic football team – 1/3 yes; 9/4 no
To re-sign for LA Galaxy? – 6/4 yes; 1/ 2 no
Which club will Becks sign for next?…1/2 PSG; 5/1 Spurs; 6/1 QPR; 10/1 Anzhi; 10/1 Blackburn; 12/1 Villa; 16/1 AC Milan; 33/1 Real Madrid. Others on request.

England Ladies’ Penalty Shoot Out Game Is Record Breaker

BBC TV BOOST MAKES ENGLAND WORLD CUP DEFEAT BIGGEST BETTING DAY YET FOR LADIES’ FOOTBALL

England’s penalty shoot-out World Cup quarter final defeat by France became William Hill’s first six-figure game in the history of ladies’ football.
‘The live showing of the match by BBC2 really boosted betting turnover and the game became our first six figure turnover match for ladies’ football, and together with the Germany-Japan game will almost certainly have produced an industry turnover on the day of over a million pounds – another first’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
‘We are now anticipating a terrific betting interest in the Women’s Football tournament at the London Olympics where the game should come of age as a betting sport, with GB already qualifying as hosts.’

William Hill…..GB Women to win the Olympic football 7/1.
Hills – GB To win a penalty shootout at the Olympic tournament 8/1.

HILLS WERE BETTING ON WHETHER ENGLAND STRIKER KELLY SMITH WOULD SCORE DURING THE TOURNAMENT, AND ALTHOUGH PENALTY SHOOT-OUTS DO NOT NORMALLY COUNT IN SUCH MARKETS, THEY HAVE DECIDED TO PAY OUT ON THIS OCCASION. ‘Kelly had drifted to 11/10 to score during the tournament and as she showed such tremendous character in not only staying on the pitch when she was badly hampered by an injury, but also hammering home the first penalty of the shoot-out we are going to pay out on both sides of the bet.’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
