Spain Second Favs For Tournament As Irish Hopes Dealt Blow

Croatia sit atop Group C after defeating Republic of Ireland but despite their draw today, Spain and Italy remain favourites to make it through to the knockout stages. William Hill make Spain 1/5 to go through and 3/1 second favourites to win the tournament. Ireland, however, are 9/1 to qualify from their group and a huge 100/1 to win the tournament.

“Given how difficult Ireland’s group is, this was a game where the boys in green needed to get something,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “Unfortunately that was not the case and they now face even more of an uphill challenge.”

You Bet England’s Women Quarter Final Failure

England’s Women eased through to the Quarter final stage of the women’s World Cup although William Hill think that a place in the Semi Finals will be a step too far for Hope Powell’s offering 4/7 that they are knocked out in the next round. They are 2/1 to be knocked out in the Semi Finals, 7/1 to be runners up and 20/1 to win the tournament. Kelly Smith, once again, failed to find the net against Japan and Hills are offering Even money that she fails to score a goal at any point during the tournament.

“England finally upped their game against Japan but the odds suggest they will be faced with an uphill challenge, whoever the face in the next round,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

England Women Hills Odds:

Stage of elimination: 4/7 Quarter Final; 2/1 Semi Final; 7/1 Runner Up; 20/1 Winner

1/1 Kelly Smith to score during the World Cup 2011

Get Your Jackett…welsh Fa Hope To Pull Kenny

Following John Toshack’s resignation as Wales manager, Kenny Jackett is the favourite to take over. The Millwall boss priced at 5/2 with William Hill, who make Brian Flynn and Chris Coleman their 3/1 joint second favourites. Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage is an outside bet at 66/1 to get the job.

The new manager is facing an uphill challenge to get Wales to the European Championships with them priced at 20/1 to qualify for the tournament and 40/1 to win the group.

“It was no secret that Toshack was about to step down, so the Welsh FA are likely to have already formulated a shortlist. The odds would suggest that Kenny Jackett is at the top of this list,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
