24 Hours To Go: Football Punters Dial Up Euro Millions

William Hill are expecting a real betting boom when the European Championships kick off on Friday. The firm are predicting that £100million could be placed by the time the full time whistle blows in the Final in the Olympic Stadium in Kiev – £3million of which is expected to be staked on England’s first game on Monday. Spain are the 11/4 favourites to win the tournament with Germany 3/1. England are 12/1 fifth favourites and despite the fact that they are the longest price ever to win a major tournament, that has not stopped Hills racking up a £1million liability should Roy’s boys lift the trophy.

The Euros is the first major football tournament taking place since William Hill launched their app and they are expecting that up to £15m will be punted by mobile punters with almost 100,000 bets being placed on the England/France game via smart phone.

“Our punters have been chomping at the bit since the season ended and we have seen a steady stream of money coming in for the Euros since then,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “That steady stream is set to become a torrent in the next few days as the tournament gets going and we are expecting a nine figure turnover over the course of the next three weeks with an unprecedented 15% of that on mobile.”

On the day that England face France, Hills are expecting to take over 200,000 bets in their shops alone and could take over 50,000 bets on the match in-play equating to over £1million.

Germany’s Mario Gomez is the 8/1 favourite to win the Golden boot and given the expansive way in which the energetic and youthful German side play, they could well reach the Final (6/4) and score plenty of goals along the way. Gomez is followed in the betting by 10/1 Robin van Persie and 12/1 Cristiano Ronaldo, who had two of the most remarkable goalscoring records in world football last season. Being banned for the first two matches of the tournament, Wayne Rooney is 33/1 to end the tournament as top goalscorer while Thomas Muller, who won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup, is 25/1 to do the same in Poland and Ukraine.

FACTS:

– William Hill expect to take over £100m on the tournament on the whole
– England’s first game could attract over £3m (£1million in-play)
– Over 200,000 bets will be staked in shops alone on the day of England’s first game against France

You Bet Olympic Saga Could Be Sorted Soon…

West Ham are allegedly growing frustrated with the lack of movement on the Olympic Stadium front. William Hill think that any problems should be sorted out by 2015, offering 2/7 that any team (in any professional division) is playing or has played a full season of home league matches at the Olympic Stadium by 2015.

“The Olympic Stadium saga has been running for quite a while now, but we think that once the Olympics are out of the way, the Stadium issue will become number one priority and should be sorted relatively quickly,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly

Spurs 7/1 To Move As Quickly As Hammers

SPURS 7/1 TO MOVE AS QUICKLY AS HAMMERS

WILLIAM HILL offer 7/1 that Spurs will also have moved to a new stadium from White Hart Lane when West Ham play their first competitive match in the Olympic Stadium, but 1/16 that they will still be in the same ground then. ‘Spurs are still talking bullishly about moving from White Hart Lane but this decision makes it look unlikely’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

YOU BET HAMMERS WON’T EVEN SELL OUT FIRST COMPETITIVE MATCH IN OLYMPIC STADIUM

WILLIAM HILL have opened a book on what division West Ham will be playing in when they kick off in the Olympic Stadium for the first time. And Hills also offer 9/4 that there will be no visible athletics track at the stadium and 11/4 that they have installed retractable seating over the track, when they do start playing league games there. ‘West Ham’s status in the football pyramid and whether they will be able to remove or disguise the athletics track are likely to be crucial factors in the success of the scheme’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

But Hills remain to be convinced that West Ham will be able to sell out the Olympic Stadium for their first competitive game there, ‘Depending on what division they are in and how reluctant their fans are to travel to the new venue we think they will find it very difficult to sell out competitive games and offer 7/4 that they will be able to do so for their firat competitive game there’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

You Bet West Ham Could Be Spur-ned In Their Olympic Dream

West Ham are the 4/7 favourites with William Hill to win the right to house their Premier League games at the Olympic stadium post 2012, however, the odds have drifted quite drastically since they were 1/5 three months ago. Tottenham are 5/4, having been as long as 12/1.

“There are only really two candidates to take over the Olympic Stadium and although West Ham are still the favourites, Spurs are right behind them,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

William Hill Olympic Stadium Odds:

Who Will Move Into The Olympic Stadium: 4/7 West Ham; 5/4 Tottenham (Bets void if neither side moves to site of the Olympic Stadium)

Punters Turn To Twitter For Tips As Bruce Backed To Quit

STEVE BRUCE TWIT? SOME WILL BET ON IT!

TWITTER rumours have sparked a gamble on Steve Bruce to be the enxt Premuier League boss to leave his club – with William Hill cutting their odds from 25/1 to 14/1 as a result of Twitter claims that the Darren Bent departure could result in Bruce leaving too. ‘There are so many sources from which rumours and stories can be broken that it is difficult to differentiate between those with any substance and the purely speculative, but when people start betting because of a Twitter story we need to respond, and that’s what we’ve done this time.’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

HILLS MAKE AVRAM GRANT 5/6 favourite to be the next Prem boss to leave his club and also offer 7/2 Ancelotti; 7/1 Hughes; 10/1 McCarthy; Martinez; 12 Houllier; DiMatteo; 14 Bruce; 20 Kean; 12 No more bosses to go this season.

WHEN WILL GRANT LEAVE WEST HAM?

BEFORE 22ND MAY 2011
1/2

22ND MAY – START 2011/12 SEASON
2/1

START 11/12 SEASON – CLOSE JAN ’12 WINDOW
12/1

AFTER JAN ’12 WINDOW
6/1

WITH THE LATEST AVRAM GRANT crisis apparently over, William Hill are betting on when the beleaguered boss – who has now been favourite to be the enxt boss to go on SIX separate occasions this season – will eventually leave West Ham, and make ‘before May 22, 2011’ their 1/2 favourite, offering 6/1 that he is still in charge following the January 2012 transfer window. ‘Avram has proved to be one of the great survivors this season – maybe he’ll still be around to manage West Ham when and if they move into the Olympic Stadium – he’s 16/1 to do that!’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

20/1 MORE PENALTY MAYHEM AT EMIRATES

With Arsenal and Leeds both scoring from the penalty spot in their original FA Cup tie, William Hill offer 20/1 that both will again convert spot-kicks in the replay. Hills make Arsenal 2/7 to progress to the next round with Leeds 5/2 to eliminate the Prem title chasers.
