Olympic Football: Men Third Favourites But Women Face Uphill Task

The draw for the women’s and men’s Olympic football was made on Tuesday, with differing fortunes for both GB sides. With the GB women having a relatively tough draw, they are 11/4 to win their group with William Hill but 16/1 to win the competition behind USA (11/4), Brazil (3/1), Japan (3/1), France (11/2) and Sweden (10/1).

The GB men on the other hand have an easier passage to get through to the knock out stages and GB are 10/11 to win their group and 5/1 third favourites to win the tournament behind Brazil (15/8) and Spain (9/4).

“The men head into the tournament as third favourites despite the fact that nobody knows who will be in their squad, while the loss of Kelly Smith looks to have hampered the women’s chances,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

You Bet Craig Bellamy Will Be Carling Cup Sideshow

Cardiff are massive outsiders to defeat Liverpool in the Carling Cup Final with William Hill making the Blue Birds 7/1 to win in 90 minutes and 4/1 to lift the trophy. Liverpool are 4/9 to win in 90 minutes and 1/7 to lift the trophy. Craig Bellamy will be the focus of most of the attention on Sunday afternoon and William Hill are offering 2/1 that he scores and Liverpool lift the trophy, 1/2 that he actually starts the match and 7/4 that he completes the match.

“Cup competitions often throw together interesting subplots like this and almost every set of eyes in Wembley will be on Bellamy on Sunday,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Anton Backed To Snub Terry On Saturday…

BOOKIES FACE BEING SHOOK UP BY HANDSHAKE SHENANIGANS

William Hill have seen a plunge on the odds of Anton Ferdinand snubbing John Terry during the pre match handshakes with the ‘no’ odds backed in from 11/10 to 8/11. “We have seen a number of three figure bets, the majority of which have come from the East End of London and if Mr Ferdinand fails to shake Terry’s hand, we could be all shook up,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Will Anton Ferdinand shake John Terry’s Hand: 8/11 no; 1/1 yes

WILL BELLAMY GIVE BOYHOOD TEAM THE BLUES AT WEMBLEY?

Craig Bellamy has claimed that it will be emotional playing for Liverpool against his boyhood side Cardiff City and William Hill are offering 4/9 that he starts the match at Wembley next month (13/8 he does not). He is 5/4 to bag a goal in the final and 20/1 to see red.

MEGSON COULD GET TROTTERS REVENGE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!

Gary Megson has reignited his war of words with Bolton Wanderers and William Hill think that he could well get the chance to face up against his former employers sooner rather than later, offering 3/1 that the two teams play each other in the Championship next season. Bolton are 5/6 to be relegated, while Sheffield Wednesday are 11/10 to gain promotion from League 1.

Should the teams face each other next season, Hills are offering 40/1 that Megson receives a red card and is sent to the stands.

“There will be no love lost between Megson and the Bolton fans and he will be sure to be on the receiving end of a bit of stick which could see him lose his rag and be banished to the stands,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Reading / Cardiff Playoff Specials

Reading take on Cardiff on Friday and they are the slight 5/4 favourites to secure a first leg victory against Cardiff who are 9/4 with the draw 11/5. Cardiff and Reading are both priced at 5/6 to qualify for the Wembley final. Two players who are certain to feature heavily in the game are Craig Bellamy and Ian Harte. Shane Long is 5/1 favourite to open the scoring during the game, with Noel Hunt 11/2. Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra, Jay Bothroyd and Simon Church are all 7/1.

Hills are also offering 1/2 that the side which wins the Playoff final ends up being relegated from the Premier League next season. The Playoff winning side are also 25/1 to get the lowest ever points total.

“Sides that win the Championship playoffs generally spend the following season flirting with relegation and the odds suggest that whoever goes up will go straight back down,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Carroll Set To Partner Rooney…terry Captain But For How Long?

Andy Carroll looks primed to start against Wales on Saturday, with William Hill offering 7/4 that he partners Wayne Rooney up front. Jermaine Defoe is the 9/4 second favourite and Darren Bent at 3/1. Carroll is Even money to get off the mark at any point during the course of the game and 4/1 to bag the first goal of the game. A lot of the build up to the game has been dominated by Fabio Capello’s decision to hand the captain’s armband back to John Terry and Hills are offering 3/1 that he is stripped of the honour again before he retires.

“Andy Carroll had an impressive debut for England and will be looking to build on that in the match against Wales, with a goal not looking unlikely,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Gareth Bale will undoubtedly be Wales’ star man and William Hill are offering 14/1 that he wins Man Of The Match on Saturday. Former captain, Craig Bellamy looks set to start and Hills are offering 11/2 that either he or Gareth Bale open the scoring. Hills are taking bets on where Bellamy will be playing next season, offering 5/2 that he stays at Cardiff and the same price that he returns to Manchester City.

Arrested Developments: Cole Could Find Himself In Hot Water Once More

William Hill have reopened betting on the next Premier League footballer to be arrested following the news that Ashley Cole is likely to escape punishment for his air-rifle shenanigans. Cole heads the betting at 7/1, with another of football’s not-so-squeaky-clean luminaries, Joey Barton, 8/1 to be the next Premier League footballer to be arrested for a new offence. John Terry is the 10/1 third favourite.

“Ashley has been off the front pages for quite a while now but recent revelations have seen him return with a flourish. The odds suggest that Cole could become quite the rogue over the next few months ,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills have already paid out on Craig Bellamy and Jack Wilshere and could still find themselves paying out on Cole if he is arrested over the air rifle incident.

William Hill Next Premier League Player Arrested Prices*:

7/1 Ashley Cole; 8/1 Joey Barton; 10/1 John Terry; 11/1 Anton Ferdinand; 11/1 Jack Wilshere; 11/1 Mario Ballotelli; 12/1 Andy Carroll; 12/1 El Hadji Diouf; 12/1 Steven Gerrard; 14/1 Wayne Rooney; 16/1 Barry Ferguson; 16/1 Kevin Nolan; 20/1 Jermaine Pennant; 25/1 Frank Lampard; 25/1 Jermaine Defoe; 25/1 Rio Ferdinand; 33/1 Carlos Teez; 33/1 Didier Drogba; 33/1 Joe Cole; 33/1 Nicolas Anelka

In Cole-d Blood: Ashley Favourite To Visit The Cop Shop

Ashley Cole has been made the 8/1 joint favourite with William Hill to be the next Premier League player to be arrested following reports that he shot a student with an air rifle. Joey Barton is also 8/1, while John Terry is the 10/1 third favourite.

“Rather bizarrely, reports are suggesting that Ashley Cole shot someone with an air rifle and it could well be that his bad boy ways are not behind him just yet,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills have already paid out on Craig Bellamy and Jack Wilshere this year and the odds suggest that Ashley Cole could make it a “hat-trick of hoodlums.”
