Brave(?) Punter Backs Liverpool To The Tune Of £44,000

William Hill took their biggest pre-season bet so far as one gutsy punter in Liverpool put down £44,000 on his side to win the league (£22,000 e/w). The man, in his mid thirties and a Liverpool fan, backed his side at 25/1 and William Hill have now cut their odds to 16/1 for them to win the title. Should Liverpool win the League he will scoop £777,333.33 and should they finish second, he will pick up £205,333.33.

“The football has gone largely unnoticed while the Olympics has been going on although there has been a steady stream of bets on Liverpool winning the title, mainly from the North West,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “There has not been that much movement in or out of Anfield this summer but despite this, Liverpool now constitute around 40% of all stakes that we have taken on the Premier League winner market.”

English Premier League winner: 6/5 Manchester City; 5/2 Manchester City; 5/1 Chelsea; 12/1 Arsenal; 16/1 Liverpool; 25/1 Tottenham; 150/1 BAR

With rumours persisting about whether or not England striker Andy Carroll has a future at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers, William Hill have quoted the big striker to scorer fewer than nine goals in the Premier League this term. Spl Favourites To Get Goal-line Technology First!

The goal-line technology argument will be hitting the headlines after the Bolton / QPR game and William Hill are betting on which European league will host the first match involving goal-line technology. The Scottish Premier League generally kicks off earlier than the other European leagues and is 13/8 favourite with the English Premier League 11/4 second favourite.

“The FA are keen to press the issue to FIFA and after yet another high profile incident, it is surely just a matter of where and when it comes into play,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

First League to stage game with goal-line technology: 13/8 Scottish Premier League; 11/4 English Premier League; 4/1 German Bundesliga; 11/2 Spanish La Liga; 7/1 French Ligue 1; 8/1 Italian Serie A; 10/1 Dutch Eredivisie

All Chelsea Eyes Turn To Being Best Of The Rest

Andre Villas Boas insinuated that nothing less than a win would see Chelsea out of the running for the title and William Hill seem to agree offering 16/1 that Chelsea win the title behind Manchester City (8/13) and Manchester United (2/1). Villas-Boas is odds-on, however, at 1/3 to still be in charge of Chelsea for the first game of next season (9/4 not to be). Chelsea are in pole position to finish top of the sides excluding both Manchesters City and United at 11/8, just ahead of Tottenham at 13/8.

“If his post match talk were to be believed, Villas-Boas has already conceded defeat in his hunt for a Premier League title, but they still have a lot to play for and are in pole position to be the best of the rest,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Fernando Torres started the game once again on the bench and William Hill offer 11/2 that he leaves the club in January and 9/4 that he leaves in the summer. While Torres looked on, both Adebayor and Sturridge continued their rich vein of scoring form and they are 16/1 and 18/1 respectively to win the golden boot this year.

Premier League Outright: 8/13 Manchester City; 2/1 Manchester United; 16/1 Chelsea; 18/1 Tottenham; 33/1 Arsenal; 100/1 Liverpool

English Premier League – Top four finish: 2/5 Chelsea; 4/7 Tottenham; 11/10 Arsenal; 9/4 Liverpool

Villas Boas at Chelsea on first day of next season: 1/3 yes; 9/4 no

Top goalscorer: 16/1 Emmanuel Adebayor; 18/1 Daniel Sturridge

Premier League without Manchester United and Manchester City: 11/8 Chelsea; 13/8 Tottenham; 3/1 Arsenal; 6/1 Liverpool; 100/1 Newcastle; 150/1 Everton

Torres to leave Chelsea in January: 11/2 yes; 1/10 no*

Torres to leave in the summer transfer window: 9/4 yes; 1/3 no*

Lukaku And Falcao In But Cole On His Way? Latest Chelsea Moves

William Hill make Romelu Lukaku 4/6 to be at Stamford Bridge next season while Falcao has been cut from 7/4 to 5/4 to join Chelsea from Porto. But for all of the talk of Andre Villas-Boas bringing in players, Ashley Cole has started to make noises of moving to Spain with Real Madrid or Barcelona his preferred choices. Hills offer 4/1 that he moves to Real Madrid during the Summer transfer window and 6/1 that he joins Barcelona in the same time period. He is 7/2 to move to any Spanish side (1/6 not to).

Despite the new manager and the dearth of players set to come in, Hills offer 8/11 that Chelsea win no trophies this season. They are 5/4 to win one trophy and 13/2 to win two. They are 400/1 to win all four competitions they will be competing in. Chelsea are 9/4 to win the Premier League, 11/2 to win the FA Cup, 13/2 to win the League Cup and 8/1 to win the Champions League.

“Villas-Boas has been brought in to win trophies for theside and while he wants to bring new faces in, he will have to be careful of letting too many players go as well,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
