Following the news that Rob Green has withdrawn himself from England duty indefinitely, William Hill have opened a market on who will be the next English goalkeeper to start a competitive game (excluding Joe Hart). Despite their recent announcements, Rob Green is the 9/4 favourite, while Ben Foster is 5/2. Other contenders in the frame to be England’s number two are Scott Carson at 3/1, Scott Loach at 9/2 and Paul Robinson at 14/1.

“Rob Green and Ben Foster have obviously grown tired of playing second fiddle to Joe Hart, but our odds suggest that if England’s number one was to suffer an injury or a lack of form, they may well consider a return to the international fold,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
