Glasgow University Set For A Tough Examination In The William Hill Scottish Cup

School may be out for the summer, but some of the students at Glasgow University are gearing up for the biggest football examination of their lives.

Glasgow University FC will face Selkirk in the first round of the 2012/13 William Hill Scottish Cup on Saturday, and the big prize for whoever graduates into the second round is a potential meeting against Rangers.

Midfielder Marc Hunter, stepping up a grade from GU’s U21 side, is already dreaming of a potential clash against the ‘Old Firm’ giants’ in the second round.

“This is the biggest game I’ve had in my career and made all the bigger with the chance that we can get Rangers in the next round! The thought of playing at Ibrox, getting some money for the club, and playing against international players would be amazing!. It’s a great incentive to get through Saturday’s tie and then hopefully look forward to the draw.”

“I have a pretty good record in the Scottish Cup, albeit in School but we won it when I was in first year so hopefully that success can continue with a win on Saturday. I’d love to grab a goal to take us through and see my name up on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday!”

The potential game against Rangers is a huge carrot for GU, but the students coach Gary Rodgers is keen to keep the players focused on Saturday’s game.

“The players may all be thinking about potentially playing Rangers in the next round but it is the old cliché of taking one game at a time and it is up to us (coaches) to keep the players focused on Saturday as it is going to be a tough match so early in the season. Normally we would have an extra 3 or 4 weeks to prepare for the Scottish Cup ties but we have managed to get a few friendlies in and have played 3 league games so the guys are looking sharp and they all want to play a part on Saturday.”

“It would be amazing for the players, the University and the coaches if we were able to get through and then get drawn against Rangers but that is a long way off yet, we just need to make sure we play to our best on Saturday and get through what is a tricky tie and I have no doubt Selkirk will be thinking along the same lines that they can potentially face Rangers in the next round so it is going to be tough but we’ll be ready.”

The 2010-11 season saw Glasgow University F.C. qualify for the Scottish Cup Second Round for the first time since 1975 after a 1-0 victory at Garscube Sports Complex against Burntisland.

The Cup sponsors, William Hill make the students 3/1 outsiders to win the game, Selkirk are 4/7 – with the draw available at 16/5.

Celtic 2/1 To Win The League This Weekend…7/1 Action Packed Old Firm

Celtic can win the title this weekend if they defeat Rangers at Ibrox and Motherwell fail to beat Kilmarnock. William Hill are offering 2/1 that Celtic lift the trophy on Sunday and they are 10/11 to win their match, while Motherwell are the 7/5 favourites to win their match at Killie. Hills are expecting a full blooded affair and offer 7/1 that both Celtic and Rangers score, a penalty is awarded AND a red card is shown.

“Rangers will be desperate to prevent their rivals from lifting the trophy at Ibrox, while Celtic would love nothing more than that,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “Both teams will be going all out for victory and this could be one of the feistiest Old Firm games in years.”

Henry, Keepers, Warnock

kEEPERS, 33/1 KEEPER’S GOAL IN FA CUP GAMES

WILLIAM HIL offer 33/1 that any keeper will score in any of the this weekend’s (Sat,Sun,Mon) FA Cup games.

Thierry 3/1 to come on and score, but:
WILL IT BE HENRY WHO LEEDS FROM THE FRONT?

WITH Thierry Henry likely to return to the Arsenal team for their FA Cup match against Leeds on Monday, William Hill offer 1/ 2 that he will extend his amazing run of scoring against Leeds in the last five games he has played against them, if he starts – and 3/1 that he is on target coming on as sub, should he start on the bench. ‘Henry has a prolific scoring record against Leeds and it would appear to be written in the stars that he should score on his return to the club’ said ill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

WILLIAM HILL believe Thierry Henry has the same chance of scoring NO goals during his two month spell at Arsenal as he has of scoring three or more in his time there, quoting 2/1 about each eventuality – but they make him an 8/1 chance to strike a blow for the Gunners against their deadly rivals Sputrs, by netting against them. ‘Many punters will be convinced there is an inevitability about Henry returning to haunt Spurs’ added Sharpe.

HENRY TO SCORE V LEEDS – 1/ 2 (if starting); 3/1 if coming on as substitute. 9/4 to score 1st goal; 9/4 last goal; 9/4 two or more; 10/1 hat trick.

HENRY ARSENAL GOALS (1ST team competitive games)
NONE 2/1
ONE 11/4
TWO 3/1
THREE OR MORE 2/1
*HILLS OFFER 8/1 THAT THIERRY HENRY WILL SCORE AGAINST SPURS DURING HIS 2 MONTH LOAN SPELL (All in, play or not).

WARNOCK BACKED TO BE NEXT BOSS OUT

NEIL WARNOCK has been cut from 11/2 to 5/2 second favourite by William Hill to be the next Premier League boss to leave his club. ‘His outbursts are becoming ever more outspoken ,Rangers are slipping into relegation trouble, and we’ve started to see cash for him to be the next to go’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe. Hills offer 8/11 that Warnock will still be Rangers’ boss on the first day of next season,Evens not.
Steve Kean is 6/5 favourite to be the next boss out with Hills who also offer 7/2 AVB/Coyle; 8/1 McLeish; 12/1 McCarthy; 16/1 no more to go this season. Others on request.
