Glasgow University Set For A Tough Examination In The William Hill Scottish Cup

School may be out for the summer, but some of the students at Glasgow University are gearing up for the biggest football examination of their lives.

Glasgow University FC will face Selkirk in the first round of the 2012/13 William Hill Scottish Cup on Saturday, and the big prize for whoever graduates into the second round is a potential meeting against Rangers.

Midfielder Marc Hunter, stepping up a grade from GU’s U21 side, is already dreaming of a potential clash against the ‘Old Firm’ giants’ in the second round.

“This is the biggest game I’ve had in my career and made all the bigger with the chance that we can get Rangers in the next round! The thought of playing at Ibrox, getting some money for the club, and playing against international players would be amazing!. It’s a great incentive to get through Saturday’s tie and then hopefully look forward to the draw.”

“I have a pretty good record in the Scottish Cup, albeit in School but we won it when I was in first year so hopefully that success can continue with a win on Saturday. I’d love to grab a goal to take us through and see my name up on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday!”

The potential game against Rangers is a huge carrot for GU, but the students coach Gary Rodgers is keen to keep the players focused on Saturday’s game.

“The players may all be thinking about potentially playing Rangers in the next round but it is the old cliché of taking one game at a time and it is up to us (coaches) to keep the players focused on Saturday as it is going to be a tough match so early in the season. Normally we would have an extra 3 or 4 weeks to prepare for the Scottish Cup ties but we have managed to get a few friendlies in and have played 3 league games so the guys are looking sharp and they all want to play a part on Saturday.”

“It would be amazing for the players, the University and the coaches if we were able to get through and then get drawn against Rangers but that is a long way off yet, we just need to make sure we play to our best on Saturday and get through what is a tricky tie and I have no doubt Selkirk will be thinking along the same lines that they can potentially face Rangers in the next round so it is going to be tough but we’ll be ready.”

The 2010-11 season saw Glasgow University F.C. qualify for the Scottish Cup Second Round for the first time since 1975 after a 1-0 victory at Garscube Sports Complex against Burntisland.

The Cup sponsors, William Hill make the students 3/1 outsiders to win the game, Selkirk are 4/7 – with the draw available at 16/5.

William Hill Scottish Cup First Round Draw And Odds Unveiled

The sponsors unveiled their odds for the 2012/13 William Hill Scottish Cup following the first draw at Edinburgh Castle this afternoon.

Scottish FA Commercial Director Kenny MacLeod, last season’s winning Hearts captain Marius Zaliuskas and David Russell, William Hill Group HR Director, conducted the first round draw.

Coldstream, who had a seven hour round-trip to Wick in last season ‘Cup, face another long trip to the Highlands. ‘The Streamers’ will face Fraserburgh in the opening round of Scotland’s premier football competition.

Several games could lay claim to being the tie of the round, but the stand out fixture looks set to be the game between Irvine Meadow against Gala Fairydean. The two sides are filled with quality and it should be a rip-roaring first round tie.

Celtic are the 4/5 favourites to lift the cup, while Hearts are 8/1 with the sponsors to retain their crown.

‘The first round draw has thrown up some very juicy ties,’’ said William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny, ‘and we just can’t wait for the action to get underway.’

9/1 Hearts Scoop William Hill Scottish Cup…8/1 For Next Year

Hearts won the William Hill Scottish Cup, after defeating Hibernian 5-1. Hearts were the pre tournament third favourites at 9/1 and we well fancied at 6/5 to win the match in 90 minutes. Hills now make the 2012 winners 8/1 to win next year’s tournament while defeated finalists Hibs are 33/1.

“The turning point was the penalty, no doubt and Hibs were always looking to struggle from there, but Hearts remained professional and got the job done,” said Hill’s spokesman Tony Kenny.

Over the course of the sponsorship, Hills have taken the Scottish Cup all over Scotland visiting the length and breadth of the country from Coldstream to Wick in the first round before embarking on a tour that took in Alloa, Wigtown , Bladnoch, Stranraer, Peterhead, Edinburgh and many many more.

“It’s been a fantastic journey to this year’s Hampden with plenty of upsets along the way and we cannot wait for next year’s competition to start,” said Hill’s spokesman Tony Kenny.

Historic Edinburgh Derby Final Could Breach £2 Million Mark

The William Hill Scottish Cup reaches its climax on Saturday and the tournament sponsors make Hearts the favourites to lift the trophy in a match that is expected to attract up to £2 million turnover industry wide. The Jambos are 4/7 to win the tournament outright and 6/5 to so in 90 minutes. Hibs are 11/8 to win the trophy and 2/1 to do so in 90 minutes, with the draw also 2/1. Of the £2 million expected to be wagered, Hills predict that 3/4 of that will be from north of the border as Scottish football fans embrace the last match of the season.

“We have not seen an all Edinburgh final for over 100 years and we think that the absence of the Old Firm will pique everybody’s interest just that little bit more,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

With so much riding on the game, the match will undoubtedly tense and very close and Hills are offering 6/1 that the match goes to penalties, while both sides are 10/1 to win the match in that way. Given that this is the first Edinburgh derby in the Final for over 100 years, it could well be a fiery affair and it is just 2/1 for a red card to be shown during the game.

Fantastic Finale To Football Season Sparks £15million Betting Bonanza

William Hill are predicting a massive betting bonanza in what will be an epic finale to the football season. Saturday sees the Champions League Final, Championship Playoff Final and the William Hill Scottish Cup Final and football fans will be looking forward to having their last punts of what has been a fantastic season at home and abroad.

Chelsea take on Bayern Munich on the German side’s home turf and are underdogs to lift Europe’s biggest trophy. Given the home advantage, Hills are expecting a comfortable victory for Bayern and make them 4/5 to win in 90 minutes and 2/5 to lift the trophy. Chelsea are 7/2 to win in 90 minutes and 15/8 to lift the trophy.

“Chelsea had a bit of luck, a bit of quality and a lot of guts in their victory Barca last time out and we think they will need more of the same in order to get anything out of this game,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills are predicting that around £10million will be wagered industry wide on the game which would make it one of the largest turnover matches in history.

Arjen Robben is going to coming up against his former club and William Hill make him the 5/1 favourite to be named Man of the Match in the Champions League Final, ahead of his teammates, Mario Gomez at 6/1 and Frank Ribery at 7/1. Those three players are clearly Bayern’s danger men and Hills are offering 12/1 that all three of them score on Saturday evening.

“Chelsea successfully subdued the triple threat of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in their last Champions League match although Bayern Munich offer a completely different and some would say more potent threat,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Chelsea had to rely on a bit of luck to grab the draw they needed in the Nou Camp and Leo Messi missed a penalty as Chelsea inched into the final. Hills are offering 20/1 that Bayern Munich are awarded a penalty in 90 minutes and miss it.

Didier Drogba was on fine form against Barcelona and he will need to be at his best to help Chelsea lift the trophy. He is 8/1 to open the scoring in the match and the same price to win man of the match. Despite the massive influence that he has had in his time at Chelsea, he s just 8/11 to have left the club by the start of next season (Even money to still be there).

“Drogba has been a fantastic servant to Chelsea and there would be no better way for him to sign off than put in a performance that helped Chelsea lift the trophy,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

PLAYOFF FINAL

Blackpool are taking on West Ham in the Championship playoff final and Hills make the Hammers the 19/20 favourites to win the match in 90 minutes and 8/13 to win promotion. Blackpool are quite big priced outsiders and are 14/5 to win the match in 90 minutes, although are only 5/4 to win promotion.

“There will be a lot of people who will be saying that the Champions League Final will be the showpiece event on Saturday, but given the way that both sides play, the match in Munich may have competition,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

With both sides favouring attack to defence, there is the chance that there could be a few goals and Hills are offering 4/1 that four or more goals are scored and West Ham win in normal time.

Some might say that Big Sam Needs a win in order to keep hold of his job and Hills go 13/8 that he is no longer West Ham boss on the first day of next season (4/9 he is still there).

WILLIAM HILL SCOTTISH CUP

“These three games are fully expected to draw in at least £15 million industry wide between them as football fans ready themselves for one last hurrah this season,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly

William Hill Champions League Prices:

90 minutes: 4/5 Bayern Munich; 7/2 Chelsea; 5/2 Draw

To lift the trophy: 2/5 Bayern Munich; 15/8 Chelsea

Ribery, Robben & Gomez to all score: 12/1

Bayern to miss a penalty in 90 minutes: 20/1
