O’neill To Be Bruce’s Replacement? Carling Cup Specials…

Steve Bruce’s days appear numbered at Sunderland and the William Hill sack race betting remains suspended for the foreseeable future. Hills are betting on who will be next through the doors at the Stadium of Light. Martin O’Neill is the 5/4 favourite while former Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez, is 6/1. Former Sunderland player and current Huddersfield boss, Lee Clark is third favourite at 9/1.

“Martin O’Neill is linked to almost every high profile job in English football but appears to have been biding his time until the right offer comes along,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “The odds would suggest that were Sunderland to come calling, he might make his much anticipated return to Premier League management.”

William Hill make the game between Manchester United and Crystal Palace the 11/8 favourite to be the highest scoring Carling Cup Quarter Final game with the tie between Arsenal and Manchester City the 9/4 second favourite. United are 13/8 favourites to be the top scorers during the week and 11/4 to score the fastest goal.

Next Sunderland Manager: 5/4 Martin O’Neill; 6/1 Rafa Benitez; 9/1 Lee Clark; 10/1 Mark Hughes; 14/1 Bob Bradley; 16/1 Dave Jones; 16/1 Steve McLaren; 16/1 Carlo Ancelotti; 16/1 Ole Gunnar Solksjaer; 16/1 Stuart Pearce; 20/1 Alan Curbishley; 20/1 Sean O’Driscoll; 20/1 Gareth Southgate; 25/1 David Moyes; 25/1 Glenn Hoddle; 25/1 Sven Goran-Eriksson; 33/1 Gianfranco Zola; 33/1 Peter Reid; 33/1 Roy Keane…others on request

Didier No Longer Top Drog But You Bet He Will Stay In January

With uncertainty surrounding the Chelsea future of Didier Drogba, William Hill think that he will stay at the club during the January transfer window offering 2/5 that he is still there on the 1st February 2012 (7/4 that he moves during that period).

“Drogba has long been the main targetman for Chelsea, however his position as top dog is under threat from some of the younger pups,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “Saying that, however, we do not think that he will bolt for the exit in January.”

Palace Travel To Old Trafford And Wednesday Europa Prices

Crystal Palace head to Old Trafford on Wednesday with the hosts 1/4 favourites with William Hill to secure a victory and the Eagles a massive 12/1 to spring an upset. With the hosts such firm favourites, Hills are offering a market on how many goals the home side will score and make two the 11/4 favourite followed by three at 3/1 but should the flood gates open, Hills make seven or more goals 33/1. Palace’s Wilfried Zaha has drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi but Hills think he has a long way to go before realising that potential and he is 4/1 to play for England before the 2014 World Cup. Zaha is 6/1 to score anytime and 16/1 to open the scoring at Old Trafford.

“Zaha will have the ultimate platform to showcase his talents although, we ultimately think that he (and his team) will struggle to score, let alone win,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Birmingham and Spurs are both taking part in the Europa League on Wednesday and while Birmingham are outsiders to win away in Braga (at 5/1) but Spurs are 2/5 to defeat PAOK Salonika at White Hart Lane. Spurs still represent England’s best prospect in this tournament and are 9/1 favourites to win the tournament.

4/1 All Manchester Carling Cup Final

Manchester United are the 15/8 favourites to win this year’s Carling Cup, ahead of Manchester City at 3/1. With the two Manchester sides hogging the top two spots in the Premier League, the pair are 4/1 to meet in the final of the Cup. With two non-Premier League sides still in the competition, they are understandably outsiders to win with Cardiff 16/1 and Crystal Palace 66/1.

“Manchester United and City have been on top form this season and it is feasible to envisage the pair meeting in the Final,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Arguably the stand out tie of the Quarter Finals is the Arsenal Manchester City match and Hills make City 8/13 to qualify for the Semis, with Arsenal 6/5.

Sven Goran Eriksson is currently looking for a job following his release from Leicester and William Hill are offering 2/1 that he manages any International side, while he is 6/1 to make a return to the Premier League. Sven arguably had most success in Italy and he is 6/1 to return. Having seen the relative ‘success’ of Nancy Del’Olio on Strictly Come Dancing, Hills offer 20/1 that he takes part in Strictly 2012.

“There will be no lack of interest from sides all around the world hoping to secure Sven’s services although he may decide to have a change of scenery in his next endeavours,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Martin O’Neill is the 2/5 favourite to replace Sven at the Walkers although there has been a fair amount of support for Rafael Benitez who has been backed in from 25/1 to 9/1.
