Is The Fa Cup On The Way To London?

MANCHESTER UNITED VS LIVERPOOL THROWS TOURNAMENT WIDE OPEN

The first FA Cup draw since William Hill became an official supporter and the official betting partner of The FA Cup threw up a couple of tasty looking ties. The highest profile of which would seem to be the tie between Liverpool and Manchester United. Hills make Liverpool 11/8 the slight favourites to make it into the hat for the fifth round. United got an away win against Manchester City and they are 13/8 to win at Anfield. Liverpool are 8/11 to qualify with United Evens. It is 4/1 for the winner of this tie to win the trophy.

The other big tie of the round will see Sunderland taking on Middlesbrough in an all North East tie and Hills make Sunderland the favourites at 4/6 and 2/5 to qualify.

Following their victory against Portsmouth, Chelsea are the 4/1 favourites to win the Cup, with Tottenham 9/2 second favourites.

With a number of London teams still in the hat, Hills are offering 5/1 that two sides from the capital fight it out in the final. It is 66/1 for an all Merseyside final and 150/1 for an all North-East final.

“With Liverpool facing Manchester United, you would think that the draw is ideally suited for the London sides to stamp their authority on the competition,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

With three Premier League teams (Bolton, QPR and Wolves) having to face third round replays, Hills offer even money that all three get through (8/11 that at least one of those teams are knocked out). Hills go 100/1 that all three Premier League sides facing replays are knocked out.

Dave Jones, speaking exclusively to William Hill, said “The Liverpool/Manchester United fourth round draw will be one of the biggest games in the competition’s history. It will be a tough away game for United, but as they proved today when they beat Manchester City, they have the quality to go to Anfield and get a result. It will however, be very tough for them as Liverpool have been resurgent under Kenny Dalglish.”

Carroll Becomes The Main Man For Liverpool…transfer Specials

Luis Suarez started his eight game ban against Manchester City and Andy Carroll will need to come to the party. Hills are betting on how many goals Carroll scores in the next seven matches and make one goal the 5/2 favourite. He is 11/4 to bag two and 7/2 to score three. Carroll is 7/2 to draw a blank in the entirety of Suarez’s absence.

“Andy Carroll has had a difficult start to his Liverpool career and for the first time since arriving at Anfield, he will be the focal point of the side’s attacks for a sustained period of time,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “It is now time for him to start performing and we think that while he may not sparkle, he should get a couple of goals for the cause.”

Jermain Defoe was on target for Spurs as they defeated West Brom and William Hill think that he will remain a Spurs player come the end of the transfer window. He is 4/11 to still be at White Hart Lane and 2/1 to have left, with Newcastle the 3/1 favourites to be his next club after Spurs. Defoe is 13/8 to start England’s first Euro 2012 game (4/9 not to) and is 50/1 to be the Euro 2012 leading goalscorer. Spurs’ victory over WBA resulted in another three points in their quest to finish in the top four and Hills make them 2/7 to finish in the Champions League spots.

There are question marks over the futures of two more of English football’s top strikers and Hills offer 11/10 that Bobby Zamora leaves Fulham this window and Even money that Didier Drogba leaves Chelsea in the same time frame. Bolton are the 15/8 favourites to be Zamora’s next club, while there are three Chinese sides (Shanghai Shenhua, Guangzho Evergrande and Dakaub Aerbin) at 3/1 to be Drogba’s next club.

How many goals will Andy Carroll score in the next seven games (all competitions): 7/2 none; 5/2 one; 11/4 two; 7/2 three; 9/2 four; 7/1 five or more

Wigan Man Lands The ‘impossible’ Treble!

You would have thought that an Everton fan based in Wigan would be used to supporting the underdogs and his penchant for the plucky outsiders has earned him a share of William Hill’s longest odds football treble. The man, in his mid 40s, who wishes to remain anonymous placed £5.00 on Blackburn beating Manchester United, Aston Villa beating Chelsea and when Ji Dong-Won scored the 93rd minute winner for Sunderland against Manchester City landing a 1517/1 hat-trick of results worth £7590.

“To find three of the least predictable of the season and put them in a virtually impossible treble leaves us very relieved he was only prepared to risk a fiver on the outcome,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “The Blackburn game saw the biggest winning Premier League odds we have ever offered, 22/1 for them to win at Old Trafford and by adding Sunderland and Villa to the mix, the lucky punter beat odds of 1517/1. It is a little surprising he didn’t add Everton to win at West Brom, which would have boosted his winnings to nearly £20,000.”

The winning selections:

£5 stake scooped £7590

Blackburn to beat Manchester United: 22/1
Aston Villa to beat Chelsea: 10/1
Sunderland to beat Manchester City: 5/1

When Will City Lose At Home?

TOTTENHAM HAVE THE SPURS TO PUSH MANCHESTER ALL THE WAY

A win for Manchester City after a tough couple of games has seen William Hill cut their odds of winning the league to 8/13. Spurs sneaked a victory at home to West Brom and they are 10/1 third favourites to win the League. Sunderland continued their fine form under Martin O’Neill and Hills make them 6/4 to finish higher than Newcastle in the league.

Taking both Manchester sides out of the equation, Spurs are odds-on at 8/11 to win the league.

“Spurs played well against West Brom, but struggled to find the breakthrough,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “They are grinding out results like this though and they are showing that they have the resilience to push the Manchester sides all the way.”

City once again avoided defeat at home and have not lost at the Etihad since losing to Everton on 20th December 2010 and Hills make them odds on, at 10/11 to avoid defeat in their next five games, although they are 10/3 to lose to Spurs on the 22nd January.

Sergio Aguero Bagged himself a goal and edged closer to Robin van Persie in the race to win the golden boot. He is the 5/2 second favourite behind the Dutchman who is miles ahead at 5/4.

Wigan were thumped at home by Sunderland and they are 2/1 favourites to finish bottom of the Premier League and 4/9 favourites to get relegated at the end of the season.

Rooney Odds-on To See Fergie Off

Wayne Rooney was left out of the Manchester United side against Blackburn after reportedly breaking a curfew on Boxing Day, but William Hill think that Rooney will get his place in the starting line-up back, offering 1/5 that he starts the next game against Newcastle. This time last year, relations between Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson were strained as Rooney requested a transfer and Hills offer 8/1 that he asks for another transfer at any point during the January window. Hills think that Rooney will actually see off Ferguson and go 1/2 that he is at United longer than Fergie (6/4 he is not).

Should he leave United, Hills make Manchester City the favourites to sign him at 5/1 with Real Madrid 8/1 and Chelsea and Barcelona at 10/1.

“Despite the sometime volatile relationship between Ferguson and Rooney, we think this particular incident is a mere blip in what we expect to be a long United career for Wayne,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills Banking On An Olympic Year

(2012 Sporting Betting Specials)

Quite unsurprisingly the head of William Hill’s 2012 Sport’s Personality betting is dominated by Olympians with Jess Ennis the 6/1 favourite followed by Rebecca Adlinton, Mo Farah and Andy Murray at 10/1. Ennis is 6/4 to win gold in the Heptathlete and if she does so, she would seem to be a shoo in for the Award. Mo Farah is 2/1 to win a gold medal at the games. A man who may not be in the running for Sports Personalitybut may be in the running for an Olympic appearance is Dwain Chambers. Hills make him 1/2 to take part in the Olympics for Team GB and NI but with Usain Bolt odds-on, at 8/11 to win both the 100m and the 200m, gold would surely be out of his grasp.

“The Olympics is the most keenly anticipated British sporting event since the European Championships were here in 1996 and the fact that the top of our Sports Personality betting is almost exclusively Olympians, reflects this,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “Saying this however, that is not to say that there are no other exciting sporting events this year and we are looking forward to 2012.”

Do Football Gods Have More Heartbreak For England Fans In 2012?

2011 was hardly a vintage year for British football, highlighted by the lack of trinkets and nominations for the BBC Sports Personality, but William Hill think that 2012 could be different, offering 7/2 that any footballer wins the 2012 award. With the European Championships taking place in the Summer of 2012, Hills currently make England 7/1 to win the favourites behind Spain 9/4, Germany 7/2 and level with Holland. Germany’s Mario Gomez is the 7/1 favourite to be the tournament’s leading goalscorer just ahead of David Villa, currently out with a fractured leg, at 9/1. Hills also offer 250/1 that the competition’s final is contested between England and the Republic of Ireland.

“With the Euros taking place in an Olympic year, it will be very difficult for the England players to steal the limelight unless they were to win the tournament,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “We think that there are teams more well suited to winning and it could well be another season of heartbreak for English football fans.”

William Hill are also offering 11/4 that 2012 is the year that Sir Alex Ferguson finally steps down from his seat at Manchester United and having experienced tricky starts to their careers Hills offer 4/1 that Fernando Torres returns to Liverpool and 11/2 that Andy Carroll goes back to Newcastle. The record for goals in a Premier League game is 9 and Hills go 10/1 that this is broken in 2012, while 25/1 is offered for any player to break the record of five goals scored by an individual in a single game.

PREMIER LEAGUE SPECIALS 26TH/27TH DEC –

11/2 Big 6 to batter bookies:
20/1 BANK HOLIDAY GOALS BONANZA

WITH the top six Premier League clubs all facing apparently straightforward matches on December 26/27, William Hill have slashed their usual odds for a hat trick to be scored in a round of Prem matches from 4/1 to 7/4 – the shortest odds they have ever quoted, and have cut their odds for these matches to beat the current record total of 43 goals in a single round of games, from 33/1 to 20/1.
‘With City, United, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool all involved in eminently winnable matches we are anticipating that the record of 43 goals will be vulnerable and that there is much more chance of a hat trick being scored than usual’ said Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Hills are also currently offering 8/11 that Man City will set a new record total of 103 or more Premier League goals this season, Evens that they do not.
WILLIAM HIL OFFER 11/2 THAT THE BIG 6 – ARSENAL, CHELSEA, LIVERPOOL, MAN C, MAN U, SPURS ALL WIN THEIR GAMES OVER DEC 26/27 – ‘We anticipate a multitude of punters looking to reduce their festive bills by cashing in on what looks like a simple six-timer’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe, ‘But we’re optimistic that at least one of them will fail to take three points’
The current record goals total for a single player in a Premier League season is 34, shared by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer – and Hills offer 10/1 that it will be broken this season. ‘That record was set in a 42 game season but with several strikers in blistering form this term it is looking increasingly vulnerable’ said Sharpe.
