Bookies Breathe Sigh Of Relief As England And France Draw

After a hard fought draw, William Hill were breathing a sigh of relief. As the game kicked off, 47% of all bets had been for Roy Hodgson’s men, with 39% of all bets being placed on France.

“We offered an industry top price of 5/2 about England, which punters were desperate to get on, while at the same time, France were also well backed by our more pragmatic punters. If we had seen a win for either side, we would have been paying out a seven figure sum,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

There were some top notch performances from the England players against France and William Hill are offering 7/4 that all eleven of tonight’s starting XI start vs Sweden with 11/8 offered for ten.

Danny Welbeck lead the line very well against France and he is 1/3 to start the match against Sweden and 6/5 to start the match against Ukraine. One person who did not impress, however, was the referee and Nicola Rizzoli is 16/1 from 7/1 to officiate in the Final.

Niccola Rizzoli to Officiate the Final: 16/1

How many of England XI to start v Sweden

10 – 11/8
9 or less – 2/1

Welbeck to start v Sweden

No – 9/4

England V France: Biggest Betting Match Of 2012…£15m Set To Be Staked

William Hill are expecting the England vs France match on Monday to be the highest turnover football match this year, outstripping the Champions League final, the FA Cup final and the Manchester City/United match at the Etihad. Over £15 million is set to be bet on the game with punters preferring to put their money on England winning the match despite the fact that France are the 6/4 favourites to win. England are 11/5 with the draw 19/10.

“We have already had some huge games this year, but we think that this one trumps them all,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “In our shops alone, we estimate that between 250,000 and 300,000 bets will be placed on Monday, making it one of the top three days of the year.”

When the sides met in the opening match of Group B at Euro 2004, a late Zinedine Zidane brace secured a 2-1 victory for France and William Hill offer 150/1 that England go 1-0 ahead and lose the match courtesy of two post 90th minute goals. 2-1 France is 9/1.

There are a number of French players based in the Premier League and William Hill offer 5/1 that these players (Nasri, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Malouda, Evra, Clichy, Koscielny) outscore all the England players who feature on Monday.

Goals match bet – England vs England based French players: 4/9 England; 5/1 France; 11/4 tie
*Nasri, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Malouda, Evra, Clichy, Koscielny only

Group D winner:

England top goalscorer: 6/1 Wayne Rooney; 6/1 Steven Gerrard; 6/1 Danny Welbeck; 13/2 Ashley Young; 7/1 Andy Carroll; 9/1 Theo Walcott; 10/1 Jermaine Defoe; 20/1 No goalscorer; 25/1 BAR

England stage of elimination: 6/4 group stage; 15/8 quarter final; 5/1 semi final; 8/1 runner up; 10/1 winner

150/1 England to be winning 1-0 and France to score two goals from the 90th minute onwards in a 2-1 victory

Do Football Gods Have More Heartbreak For England Fans In 2012?

2011 was hardly a vintage year for British football, highlighted by the lack of trinkets and nominations for the BBC Sports Personality, but William Hill think that 2012 could be different, offering 7/2 that any footballer wins the 2012 award. With the European Championships taking place in the Summer of 2012, Hills currently make England 7/1 to win the favourites behind Spain 9/4, Germany 7/2 and level with Holland. Germany’s Mario Gomez is the 7/1 favourite to be the tournament’s leading goalscorer just ahead of David Villa, currently out with a fractured leg, at 9/1. Hills also offer 250/1 that the competition’s final is contested between England and the Republic of Ireland.

“With the Euros taking place in an Olympic year, it will be very difficult for the England players to steal the limelight unless they were to win the tournament,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “We think that there are teams more well suited to winning and it could well be another season of heartbreak for English football fans.”

William Hill are also offering 11/4 that 2012 is the year that Sir Alex Ferguson finally steps down from his seat at Manchester United and having experienced tricky starts to their careers Hills offer 4/1 that Fernando Torres returns to Liverpool and 11/2 that Andy Carroll goes back to Newcastle. The record for goals in a Premier League game is 9 and Hills go 10/1 that this is broken in 2012, while 25/1 is offered for any player to break the record of five goals scored by an individual in a single game.

You Bet Jags Or Lescott Will Start Alongside Terry But Capello To Ring Changes

A largely experimental England side performed well for Fabio Capello, but William Hill think that the changes will be rung when the side steps out for their opener at the European Championships. Hills offer 2/1 that just three of the starting XI vs Sweden start England’s first game in Poland and the Ukraine, with four the same price.

The defence was well marshalled by John Terry and Gary Cahill and Hills offer 13/2 that this pairing start England’s first Euros game although the most likely seems to be John Terry with either Lescott or Jagielka (both 9/4). It would appear that the seemingly unbreakable partnership of Terry and Ferdinand has reached its end, with Hills making them 10/1 to line up side by side for England’s first Euros match.

“Cahill and Terry played well together but we think that Jagielka or Lescott may just get the nod ahead of Cahill to line up next to the captain,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

England have secured two wins in two home friendlies and are due to play Holland at the start of next year and Hills make England slight favourites at 13/10 to win the match, with Holland13/8 and the draw 11/10.
